ABOUT S.U.R.F.

The STEM Undergraduate Research Fair (S.U.R.F.) event was created in order to showcase the undergraduate research work of STEM Program students. At the S.U.R.F. event, the student researchers will present on projects from a wide variety of STEM disciplines. In 2018 the STEM Program expanded S.U.R.F to include disciplines across the KapCC Campus including STEM, Project ʻOlonā, Communications, English, Sleep Science, Economics, Culinary Innovations, Health Sciences and Social Sciences.

STEM also included an Oral Presentations day of S.U.R.F allowing students the opportunity to practice presenting their findings at national conferences, such as the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), SACNAS, AISES, WIPCE and much more.  The S.U.R.F. also gives other students on campus the chance to learn about undergraduate research and the STEM program, as well as the opportunity to interact with current STEM students and faculty/staff.

To culminate each semester, the Kapiolani Community College STEM Program hosts the annual STEM Undergraduate Research Fair (S.U.R.F.) event. This three-day event is a showcase of the undergraduate research of our very own Kapiʻolani Community College students. Pupus and refreshments for S.U.R.F are generously provided by the Board of Student Publications (BOSP).

The Kapiolani Community College STEM Program’s innovative Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) provides students with numerous opportunities to participate in faculty-mentored research projects based on competition, group, and independent research models.
